At the age of 16, John knew that his ultimate goal in life would be to compete for Canada at the Olympic Games. John has made many sacrifices to achieve this goal; he relocated to Ottawa from his hometown of Aurora at the young age of 17 in order to train with National Team Coach, Michal Staniszewski, 6-time world champion and Silver medalist at the 2000 Olympic Games. John knew that Michal would be an integral part in his transformation from mediocrity to excellence.
Although much of his year comprises of extensive travel to races and competitions throughout Europe, Australia and North America, John does do a significant portion of his training here in Ottawa. He weight-trains at the renowned Athletic Condition Center, home of many elite and high performance athletes and does much of his specific in-boat training at the ‘Pumphouse’ located in downtown Ottawa off the beautiful Ottawa river.
To go to the Olympics John needs to be number one in Canada, which requires him to jump up one more position on the ladder, not an easy feat. Thus, John is unwilling to make any compromises with any aspect of his life. With respect to his body, he knows he must treat it like an engine; and for an engine to run smoothly it must be fed supreme fuel. This is why John uses InterACTIVE Nutrition® products. Using a combination of products such as Interactive Nutrition®'s Micronized L-Glutamine™, ISOWhey™ and Whey ProXL™ proteins and Micro Creatine™, John has the precise fuel necessary to push him to the top and achieve Olympic excellence.
John knows what it takes to be best, and with these ingredients, it is only a matter of time until it happens.
Why did I choose Interactive Nutrition®?
During the off-season, my training is very intense. I spend between 10-15 hours on the water/week, 6 hours (3 - 4 workouts/week) in the gym and approximately 5 hours doing cardiovascular work like running, swimming and biking. In the on-season, my training becomes more specific as I spend more time training on the water (in my kayak), typically doing about 15 - 20 hours/week. I do train in the gym, but these workouts do not exceed 2 hours/week. In order to race at our best, we need to be rested and ready.
